Henry Ford Health System's Gary Rounding to Retire

DETROIT - After seven years of great success leading the Philanthropy Department at Henry Ford Health System, Gary E. Rounding has announced he will retire as Senior Vice President, effective Dec. 31.

Henry Ford has begun an immediate search for his replacement.

Since 2005, Rounding and his team have raised nearly $150 million for Henry Ford. This year alone, the health system is expected to raise more than $30 million, breaking all of its fundraising records.

Under Rounding's leadership, the Philanthropy Department led the launch of a $250 million fundraising campaign in 2007, the most ambitious campaign in Henry Ford's history.  Called "Envision," the campaign has already reached 63 percent of its goal, with 44 gifts worth $1 million or more.

During his career with Henry Ford, Rounding nearly triple the number of philanthropic volunteers on the Henry Ford team, introduced the concept of Councils of Advisors, and engaged more than 20,000 donors, up from 7,000 donors in 2003.

Rounding also is credited with reviving the Community Giving Campaign in 2005, designed to provide an opportunity for employees and physicians to express their support of System projects and programs, as well as Henry Ford's community partners.

In its first year, nearly 7,000 employees donated $1.5 million to the Community Giving Campaign. In 2009, more than 11,000 employees, physicians and leaders pledged more than $2.7 million to support Henry Ford initiatives, United Way for Southeastern Michigan and Black United Fund of Michigan.

Rounding came to Henry Ford in 2003 from Wayne State University, where he served for four years as Senior Vice President for University Advancement and President of the Wayne State University Foundation.
